Christmas medley ideas for choirs and bands

A Christmas medley is the most requested medley of the year, and the concert date doesn't move. Here are combinations that work, built on traditional carols (public domain, so you can arrange them freely), with keys and transitions that flow.

1. The classic singalong (4–5 minutes)

Order Song Key Section
1 Deck the Halls F Verse 1
2 Jingle Bells F → G Chorus ×2
3 We Wish You a Merry Christmas G → A Full

Transitions: drum fill from Deck the Halls into Jingle Bells, step up to G; a turnaround (Bm7 – E7) into We Wish You in A. End on a held chord with a cymbal swell.

2. The candlelight medley (choir, slow to bright)

Order Song Key Feel
1 Silent Night B♭ 3/4, gentle
2 O Come, All Ye Faithful B♭ → C 4/4, broader
3 Joy to the World D Bright finale

Transitions: ritardando and fermata at the end of Silent Night, then a two-bar organ or piano lead-in in 4/4. From O Come into Joy to the World, use a dominant lead-in (A7) for the lift to D.

3. The children's concert

Order Song Key
1 Up on the Housetop C
2 Jolly Old Saint Nicholas C (minor feel)
3 Jingle Bells D

Keep everything between C4 and D5 for young voices. Use simple stops (everyone cuts, one bar of silence) as transitions; kids love them.

4. The international carol medley

Silent Night (German verse) → Ding Dong Merrily on High (English) → Feliz Navidad-style Latin groove on a traditional villancico such as "Los peces en el río" or the Catalan "El noi de la mare". A great showcase for multilingual schools and choirs.
